寫作只是思考活動的自然回饋

Utensils

-          Measuring cup

-          Chopping knife

-          Cutting board

-          Vegetable/cheese grater

-          Oven

-          Baking sheet (foil or aluminum)

Ingredients (makes 5 – 6 servings)

-          6 medium-sized baking potatoes

-          salt and pepper to taste

-          2 ½ c. of pasta sauce, warmed like spaghetti sauce in a can

-          chopped green peppers

-          sliced and sautéed mushrooms

-          ½ c. grated parmesan cheese

-          2c. grated mozzarella or other pizza cheese

Recipe

-          Preheat oven to 400F. 

-          Scrub the potatoes and poke them with a knife and bake for 50-60 min. until they are tender in the center.

-          Cook potatoes then cut in half lengthwise and scoop out most of the flesh (save to eat later), leaving a thin potato wall. 

-          Cool the skins.

-          Continue heating oven to 400F.

-          Lightly salt and pepper insides of the skins and place onto baking sheet.

-          Spoon sauce into skins equally

-          Sprinkle toppings over skins and cover evenly with cheese

-          Bake for 15 min. 

-          Cool, then serve

我們熟知的食物金字塔 Food Pyramid，在今天 (June 2) 被美國的農業部 The U.S. Department of Agriculture 宣布用新的 MyPlate ，亦或所謂的餐碟圖所取代

以下是簡單的原文報導中英文對照

The food pyramid that represented a healthy diet for almost 20 years now gives way to a food plate, the U.S. Department of Agriculture announced today.

First lady Michelle Obama, Surgeon General Regina Benjamin and Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack unveiled the new icon. It’s called MyPlate, and it has four colored sections representing fruits, vegetables, grains and proteins. Next to the plate is a smaller circle representing dairy products.

『MyPlate is a truly simple, powerful visual cue to help people adopt healthy eating habits at meal times,』 said Vilsack.

On MyPlate’s website, the USDA emphasizes several important nutrition messages: eat smaller portions, make at least half the plate fruits and vegetables and avoid sugary drinks.

Nutrition experts believe a plate is a good choice. (ABC World News)

鑑於金字塔的內容複雜難明又籠統，美國農業部週四起將推出全新的碟形圖案取代食物金字塔，新圖案把碟子明確分成五穀、蔬菜、水果及蛋白質4大基本類別，讓公眾一看就知均衡飲食中，蔬果應佔每餐至少一半的分量，希望改善美國人越來越不健康的飲食習慣。(星洲日報)

在國內媒體正一窩瘋的追逐八卦腥羶之際，這個相對而言重要但溫和的新聞訊息被埋沒了。若能主動運用英文蒐集資訊，就能擺脫營養不均衡的台灣媒體缺乏國際觀的擺佈。

-         March is National Nutrition Month營養月系列活動二

-         Students will make a “menu” by dividing a large sheet of poster board into 4 sections.由孩子自製菜單

-         Each section will be a different food group (e.g. dairy, breads and grains, meats/fish/soy, and fruits and vegetables)四大類食物

-         Assign each group/pair of students a category.  Students will draw/color/cut out a picture of a food that belongs in that group.

-         Label the pictures on the posterboard menu and display onto posterboard with Velcro or putty.

-         Allow students to take turns as “servers,” “customers,” and “cooks.”

孩子們最喜愛的角色扮演，每個孩子可以輪流擔任不同角色，同時訓練聽說讀寫不同英文技巧

• The customer orders a meal that contains something from each food group.
• The server writes down the order (using the menu as a resource)
• The cook prepares the meal by reading the order, removing the foods from the chart, and placing them on the plate.
• The server then brings the meal to the customer.

 我們的孩子除了在口語表達上很流暢，還很愛演喔!!!!!!(會自己加台詞，超搞笑的)

-         February is Dental Health Month二月份是牙齒保健月

-         Materials to prepare:我們和孩子一起動手做實驗，了解不刷牙的後果

以及牙膏中的氟化物對牙齒的幫助

• 2 glass jars
• vinegar
• two raw eggs
• Plastic tub/basin with water
• Toothbrush
• Toothpaste

-         Ask students why they think it’s important to brush teeth.

-         Cavities form when bacteria in mouths change sugars in foods to acids.

-         This causes a sticky substance called plaque to form on teeth

-         Fill 2 jars partway with vinegar.  Vinegar is like the acid in our mouths that can cause cavities.  Place an egg in each jar.  Eggshells are like our teeth.

-         Remove one egg from vinegar a few minutes after putting it in.  Provide a toothbrush and toothpaste.  Let children take turns gently brushing and rinsing egg.  Set this egg on a paper towel.

-         Leave other egg in vinegar overnight.  See what happens.
